Biography

Jaimielynn Amato, widely known as the Songbird of El Paso, is a dynamic vocalist, multilingual performer, sapphic singer/songwriter, and virtuoso whistler whose artistry has been captivating audiences since childhood. With a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from The University of Texas at El Paso, she blends classical discipline with an intimate, acoustic warmth that defines her unmistakable sound. Her classical performance credits include collaborations with the El Paso Choral Union, Viva! El Paso, El Paso Opera, Opera UTEP and the UTEP Dinner Theater. A hallmark of her musicianship is her extraordinary versatility—she moves effortlessly across classical, folk, pop, jazz, and global vocal styles, adapting with remarkable speed and authenticity.

As a global storyteller, Jaimielynn offers audiences a “musical passport,” weaving Spanish, Italian, French, and folk influences into original compositions and reimagined classics. Her multi‑instrumental fluency on guitar, ukulele, and piano enriches her performances with seamless transitions and layered textures. She is also known for her interactive songwriting sessions, inviting audiences to co‑create in real time and experience the artistic process from the inside out.

Her presence as a queer artist is central to her work. Jaimielynn proudly partners with El Paso Sun City Pride for its annual celebrations, collaborates with the Borderland Rainbow Center on community outreach initiatives, and composes original works for the Border AIDS Partnership. Through these collaborations, she uses music as a tool for visibility, healing, and collective empowerment.

Beyond the stage, Jaimielynn is a dedicated educator shaping the next generation of artists. With over a decade of experience, she provides elite vocal coaching, instrumental instruction, and serves as a public school choir director. She is currently serving as a middle school choir director from the El Paso Independent School District and the owner of Songbird Productions music studio. Whether performing, teaching, or advocating, she continues to bridge cultures and communities—one note (and whistle) at a time.

Growing up in the frontera shaped my belief in the power of equality, unity, and social change. In the Borderland, community isn’t something you learn—it’s something you’re born into. We are raised to celebrate our culture, uplift one another, and take pride in the rich blend of identities that make this region unique. That upbringing fuels my commitment to advocating for universal love, respect, and visibility for our queer, Hispanic, and female communities.

The Borderland is a place of profound diversity, and it continues to inspire my work as an artist. My goal is to break down barriers through music, to express myself freely, and to honor every part of who I am—Hispanic, Italian, and American. My artistry is rooted in the belief that embracing our full identities not only strengthens us individually but also brings our communities closer together.
